Investigators say Remington Arms fire was deliberate
Investigators now believe Wednesday's fire at the Remington Arms factory was deliberately set. Heavy smoke and flames consumed the top floor of the Helen Street facility, which has been vacant for more than 10 years. Bridgeport Deputy Fire Chief Robert Petrucelli said the three-alarm fire was confined to one wing of the large structure. Due to the size of the facility, it took firefighters some time to bring the flames under control. Now, investigators say the fire was intentionally set with the use of an accelerant. "We called in our fire investigator and the investigation is just getting started right now, and it's going to be ongoing," said Petrucelli. Bridgeport Associate City Attorney Russell Liskov said Remgrit Realty, LLC is the current owner of the property and owes back taxes in the amount of $9,834,000. According to Liskov, that is the largest delinquent tax bill in Bridgeport. Liskov said the matter is in foreclosure in superior court. Remgrit Realty has until June 18 to pay the back taxes. If the taxes aren?t paid, Liskov said the city could become the new owners.Related information:Fire rips through vacant Bridgeport factory
