? Jurors heard testimony Monday in the sentencing of Russell Peeler, who was convicted of fatally shooting two people. Three of the 18 jurors were excused Monday morning during the proceedings. One was excused for medical reasons, the two others because they expressed concerns for their safety following a Sunday Connecticut Post article. That article identified the jurors? names. The remaining 15 jurors heard testimony and will ultimately determine if Peeler should receive the death penalty or life without the possibility of parole. Peeler was convicted of fatally shooting 8-year-old BJ Brown and his mother in 2000. Brown was expected to be a key witness against Peeler in a murder trial. A previous jury was unable to reach a decision about Peeler?s sentence. Jury selection for the current proceedings began in May and didn?t end until the last week of August. Jurors must decide if Peeler should receive the death penalty or life in prison. Prosecutors expect the trial to last about two months.
