Kings of the City: Norwalk Revolution champs honored with parade
The Norwalk Revolution 15 and under baseball team won the Babe Ruth World Series Championship in August, but Saturday’s was the city’s chance to celebrate.
The team took a victory lap that started at City Hall. Classic cars, coaches, police and families led the way as the team got escorted to Calf Pasture Beach.
Mayor Harry Rilling says it was a group effort with the Parks and Recreation Department, police and parents to make sure the boys knew how proud the city was of them.
"It feels great to be the stars of the town right now," says second baseman Jayden Gonzalez.
The Norwalk Revolutions had an undefeated regular season. They played the hometown team in Bismarck, North Dakota, in August to clinch the championship title. Parents, family and friends raised more than $8,000 to get the boys to and from North Dakota.
Head coach Jimmy Benincaso says he is “extremely grateful.”
“Without the city support and all the people who followed us, it wouldn't' be possible," he says.
The team also won the Babe Ruth World Series 11 years ago.
