Several bills aimed at easing the pain at gas pumps were being discussed Thursday at the Connecticut Capitol.

One of the three bills would give customers a discount for paying cash and another would address price gouging. The director of the Gasoline and Automotive Service Dealers of America says combined, those measures could save up to 15 cents per gallon. He believes there's a good chance they will pass this year.

The third bill calls for cutting the 22-cent gross receipts tax, which is paid on the wholesale price of gas. The proposal calls for fixing the tax to 12 cents. House Minority Leader Larry Cafero (R-Norwalk) supports the push.

"It's like a windfall for the state and that's not the way we should be raising our revenue," Cafero says. "We can't say we're sorry [to drivers] and at the same time put the cash in our pocket."

Unlike Cafero, many lawmakers have voiced opposition to giving up that revenue source.
