Mets fans had high hopes for the new season before Friday's game.
Some local Mets fans say its been a long wait for opening day, including Andy and Beth Pearce, from Norwalk.
They have a whole Mets collection in their home- everything from a 2015 World Series ticket to an autographed Keith Hernandez baseball to bobble heads.
The Pearce's have been waiting for the start of the season.
"It's like springtime It's rejuvenation. I mean it's been a tough winter. There's all sorts of possibilities. This is great. It's a clean slate. Wow, it's baseball again it's back," said Andy Pearce.
The couple even wore their Mets jerseys for News 12.
Aside from two World Series titles, there's been a lot of suffering for Mets fans.
"I mean that's what life is all about. I wish it was all you know flowers and candy, but it isn't. Mets fans we kind of get it. There are ups and downs. Mostly downs but I mean that's what it's all about," said Andy Pearce.
The couple even travels to see their friends at games in Philadelphia.
"A whole bunch of Mets fans are there at the Phillies games. They travel all over to the games. They're very devoted fans. I really admire that," said Beth Pearce.
Andy Pearce, a teacher in Stamford, has the day off for the Good Friday holiday.
He thinks opening day should also be a holiday.
"Don't you think that should be a day off? Yes. I think it should," said Andy Pearce.
Many fans may agree.
Andy was the first Mets fan in the family - he went to the 1969 World Series.
He says he even saw some games at the Polo Grounds.
