Milford woman accuses Biden of interaction that made her feel uncomfortable
A Milford woman is accusing former Vice President Joe Biden of touching her in a way that made her feel uncomfortable.
Amy Lappos, a former staffer for Rep. Jim Himes, says she met Biden at a fundraiser in Greenwich in 2009. She says Biden touched her face with both hands and rubbed noses with her at the event, and says she remembers thinking he was about to kiss her.
"He came up and wrapped his hands right here and pulled me in, and I remember thinking, 'Is he gonna kiss me?' And I wasn't sure," Lappos tells News 12. "He was moving in and I'm like, 'Is he gonna kiss me? I'm going to let him kiss me, he's going to kiss me, oh my God, he's going to kiss me -- what is going on?' And then we touched noses, and he rubbed noses with me, and he was talking to me -- and I don't remember what he said."
The allegation follows a magazine essay by former Nevada politician Lucy Flores, who wrote that Biden kissed her on the back of the head in 2014.
Lappos says that when she posted on Facebook yesterday about her encounter with Biden, she was really just looking to support Flores. Since then, her post has begun to attract attention.
Lappos says she does believe the Democratic Party should nominate a woman to run for president. She says she knows sharing her story means losing some privacy and potentially facing critics.
Biden has previously defended his interactions with women, saying he doesn't believe he's ever acted inappropriately. In a statement on Sunday, Biden said it was never his intention to make women feel discomfort and if he did so, "I will listen respectfully."
The allegations come as Biden has reportedly been wrestling for months with a final decision on whether to run for president in 2020.
