The Mega Millions lottery jackpot is now up to $900 million, the second largest in history.
With lottery fever going strong in the Garden State, News 12’s Brian Donohue went in search of some winning strategy tips from New Jersey residents.
Many had their own system for picking winning numbers.
“I pick birthdays, bus tickets, license plates, car plates, a dream I’ll have,” said one customer outside Goldy’s Lottery Center in Bayonne.
“I pray to God. That’s the best way I know,” said another customer. “I ask God for luck.”
One customer wouldn’t tell Donohue his system for picking numbers, but said he would share his winnings if he won.
Kyron Hodges told Donohue that he uses the numbers that show up in his very expensive property tax bill.
“I took the actual number and broke it into numbers,” Hodges said.
Another customer told Donohue that when there is a bus accident, she plays the bus number on her lottery ticket.
“It works for me,” she said.
Whatever the system, everyone will need a little bit of luck. The odds of winning the jackpot are at 1 in 302.5 million.
The next Mega Millions drawing will be Friday.
