A man from New Milford has died after contracting a tick-borne illness.

According to the state medical examiner's office, Michael Yoder, 55, died after contracting an infection from a tick bite.

The illness is caused by a parasite that gives people flu-like symptoms.

In severe cases, the disease can cause anemia that leads to organ failure.
