A jeweler in Norwalk says parked construction trucks and loud noise is causing the business to lose revenue this holiday season.
Kosta Jewelers has been on Wall Street for 35 years. Nik Almirakis, who co-owns the business with his father, says December is always the time they look to make some more cash, but the noisy construction is no help.
"We don't even need a calendar anymore. We can just look outside. If we hear the trucks running, we know it's December," Almirakis says. "They'll park in front of our businesses, they cut off the lane, so it's one lane… every year, like clockwork."
Almirakis says he's put in multiple calls to the city.
"No one ever calls us back and explains to us what's going on, how long it's going to take," He asks.
This year, state Sen. Bob Duff looked into the situation and learned that it's not a city project.
Eversource was receiving complaints that grates needed to be welded down since that noise was disturbing merchants. No permits were required for the routine work.
"Eversource did not notify the businesses and they did not notify the city that they were doing the work, so unfortunately nobody had any information," Sen. Duff says.
As far as noise in December that Almirakis says is yearly…
"It could be random, but there's been a lot of work here the last few years," Sen. Duff says.
He adds that he hears the merchants' concerns and wants there to be better communication so small businesses can be aware of any inconveniences.
News 12 reached out to Eversource who said the welding work should be complete.
