A Mercer County family is recovering after police say a man broke into their home and held them hostage, before forcing one of the family members to drive him to Trenton.
Hamilton police say that that crime happened on Oct. 21 around 8:20 p.m. near Lakeview Drive. Police say that during a family gathering a black man wearing what appeared to be a homemade ski mask broke into the home armed with a sawed off shotgun.
The man tied the family up and ransacked the house, according to police. The suspect then forced one of the adult women in the house to drive him to Trenton in the family’s car, before releasing her unharmed.
Police are asking anyone who may have more information about the incident to give them a call.
The suspect is described as a dark-skinned black man who is about 35-40 years old. He is 5 feet 10 inches tall and weighs about 180 pounds. Police say that he was wearing a black-hooded sweatshirt with blue sleeves, dark blue jeans, bright white Nike Air sneakers with a white Nike “swoosh,” a black backpack with a teal rear pocket, and a black homemade ski mask that may have been a beanie-style hat with holes cut for vision and breathing.
Anyone who may have any information about the crime is asked to call Hamilton police at 609-689-5825 or the police Crime Tip Hotline at 609-581-4008.
