Police: Milford man accused of beating, choking woman with MS
A Milford man was arraigned Monday for allegedly beating and choking a woman who suffers from multiple sclerosis, police say.
The incident happened Saturday inside a West Town Street apartment around 4:20 p.m.
Russell Molleur, 56, of Milford, is facing assault and strangulation charges as well as unlawful restraint.
Officers say Molleur, a friend of the victim, showed up at her house Saturday and made unwanted advances toward her before assaulting her.
They say he knocked her head up against walls and table several times, dragged her up and down walls and tried to strangle her until she lost consciousness several times.
Molleur then allegedly ordered the woman to remove her clothes and take a shower so he could hide evidence of the attack.
Police say Molleur called 911 to report the woman had been injured and when police arrived they arrested him.
The woman, who lost a substantial amount of blood,  was transported to the Bridgeport Hospital with severe head injuries. She was originally in critical condition but is now in stable condition.
"There was blood everywhere," one neighbor said. "It was a bloody scene, it was really terrible."
Neighbors say Molleur was arrested last fall after allegedly threatening a male neighbor for not engaging in sexual activity.
Police say alcohol was not a factor in the assault.
During the arraignment, the judge raised Molleur's bond from $250,000 to $350,000.
He was given a protective order and is due back in court at the end of the month.
