Police: Officer opens fire after car crashes into cruiser
Bridgeport police say two men led officers on a chase through the city Tuesday night that ended in a crash.
Detectives say officers tried to stop a vehicle near Madison Avenue and Alice Street. They say the suspect put the car in reverse, struck an undercover officer's car and then drove forward, nearly hitting a uniformed officer.
A captain who was in the undercover car fired several shots at the suspect's vehicle. No one was hit, and no one was injured in the subsequent chase.
The suspect's car wound up crashing into a tree at the corner of James and Chestnut streets, leaving shattered glass all over the ground.
News 12 is told the suspects ran off and officers then caught them in a backyard.
One of the suspects, 26-year-old Wilson Haile, was arraigned Wednesday on several charges, including attempted assault on an officer. Investigators say the passenger in the car, 24-year-old Mikhail Salmon, posted bond after being charged with interfering with police.
Authorities did not say why the undercover officers wanted to stop the car in the first place, but did say the investigation is ongoing and that more charges could be filed.
