Police: Thief breaks into senior citizen’s apartment, steals car in Bridgeport
Police in Bridgeport are looking for a thief they say broke into a senior citizen's apartment and took off with her car.
It happened early Saturday morning at the apartment building on Huntington Turnpike when Bianca Monroe says she was woken up to the sound of someone in her apartment.
Monroe says she remained frozen in place, terrified, for 20 minutes until she heard the person leave.
It wasn't until later that morning she realized her keys were gone and the next day, she found her parking spot was empty.
A sign hangs in the building's lobby, warning residents someone posing as a UI worker has been trying to access apartments.
She now feels unsafe in her own home, especially since the management company has yet to change her locks.
It's unclear how the suspect entered through the security door.
Police are looking at surveillance video from the property.
While they are confident they will find Monroe's car and the person who did this, they want to make sure it doesn't happen to anyone else.
“If you see someone suspicious, go back on the street, call someone, press the panic button, anything you need to do,” says Police Chief AJ Perez.
News 12 has reached out to the management company for comment, but have not heard back yet.
