Following the murder of Tiffany Harris last month, her loved ones came out for a vigil Friday to condemn the murders of Black trans individuals.
People gathered at the corner named Black Lives Matter Boulevard and Black Trans Lives Matter Boulevard in the Bronx.
They say they are tired of coming out to say another name of another trans person who was killed.
Friends and family tell News 12 Harris was a peaceful person and that the 32-year-old loved to shop.
On Sunday, July 26, police say they responded to a 911 call for an unconscious woman inside 2575 Jerome Ave.
Police discovered the 32-year-old with a stab wound to the chest. Harris was transported to the hospital, where she was pronounced dead.
Statistics show that fatal violence disproportionately affects transgender women of color.
Police released surveillance video Friday of a suspect wanted in connection to the slaying of a Bronx transgender woman.
Police say they are searching for a Black male who was last seen wearing a white T-shirt and dark pants.
"As we talk about Black Lives Matter, we have to also say Black trans lives matter as well because our Black trans brothers and sisters have been facing discrimination, whether it's in the workplace, whether it's in the community, they have felt the harassment and excessive force by law enforcement and they deserve our support too,” said Bronx Councilwoman Vanessa Gibson.
