Police are warning residents in southwestern Connecticut to be vigilant when leaving their scooters unattended after a recent theft at a Darien train station.

The latest theft occurred this past weekend at the Noroton Heights Metro-North station.

Scooters are often left at Metro-North stations as residents commute to New York City or elsewhere.

Darien Police Sgt. Jeremiah Marron says a brief walk passed a row of scooters showed that many were secured improperly or not at all. He says that more than a dozen scooters have been stolen from the Noroton Heights station over the past couple of years.

Marron recommends using a steering wheel lock or killswitch to secure a scooter, in addition to making sure it is connected to a rack.

Police say the most important thing to do after a theft is to file a report.
