The Hudson County Prosecutor's Office has identified the mother who died over the weekend in Jersey City.
According to the prosecutor’s office, Sandra Provost, 41, died Saturday afternoon after being taken to the hospital.
Jersey City police responded to 33 Suburbia Court Saturday shortly before 6 a.m. for a report of a woman in need of medical attention. Officers say they found Provost needing assistance, along with an unresponsive baby girl.
The infant, whose age and identity are unknown, was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause and manner of death are under investigation by the medical examiner.
Provost was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, and was pronounced dead Saturday shortly before 5 p.m. Her cause of death is also under investigation.
Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip on the prosecutor's office website.
Officials have not commented on the condition of the home or if it has been previously investigated.
A neighbor tells News 12 the house is vacant with squatters living there illegally, but that has not been confirmed at this time by authorities.
