A plan to bring affordable housing and office space to 570 Fulton St. was shot down by Community Board 2, but some residents don't agree with the decision.

Slate Property Management submitted a proposal to build 139 apartments, 41 of which would be for low- and middle-income residents, as well as office space.

However, Community Board 2 voted last week against the rezoning proposal that would turn the current three-story property into a 40-story building. The Brooklyn Paper reported the members felt there wasn't enough affordable housing and job opportunities included in the plan.

Farakhan Norris, of Downtown Brooklyn, says he hopes that the two parties can come to a reasonable negotiation.

Slate Property Group conducted outreach in the area, including NYCHA complexes. One tenant says contrary to the board's decision, the company is providing more jobs than most in the area. 

In a statement, the developer says, "Slate designed the project with Brooklyn's needs for jobs and affordable housing in mind and will continue to work with the community and government officials to make sure it is successful."

Brooklyn Borough President Eric Adams will offer his recommendations for the project in the coming weeks.
