Robbers threaten Westport cafe worker with gun, knife
It was a frightening morning for the Black Duck Café employee held at gunpoint during a robbery Wednesday. According to police, two suspects entered the Westport café around 5 a.m. while the employee was setting up for the day. Peter Aitkin, the café owner, said the employee was cleaning the bar when two men came in the front door and threatened his life. One of the suspects threatened to shoot the employee if he did not give up the safe combination. When the employee refused, the suspects threatened to cut off his toes. At that point, the victim gave up the combination and the suspects emptied the safe before fleeing. Police are investigating the robbery, which Aitkin said is the first violent robbery to take place at the Black Duck in the 29 years he's owned the café. He plans to install a security system.
