A severe thunderstorm lasted several hours and brought down a tree limb onto a car and caused power lines to catch fire throughout Fairfield County.
A severe thunderstorm rolled into Fairfield County around 4 p.m. Wednesday closing out the last day of July.
There were two fatal thunderstorms in Fairfield in June and July.
Wednesday's storm lasted several hours and brought down a tree limb onto a car and caused power lines to catch fire on Crestwood Road in Fairfield.
The road was temporarily closed while UI worked to repair the damage. The driver of the car was not injured.
Westport also saw storm damage when officials say a lightning strike was to blame for a house fire on Sleigh Ridge Road.
The fire broke out just before 5 p.m. Wednesday night.
Lightning also struck the roof of an Easton home causing a fire on Tuckahoe Road.
Fire officials say crews were also able to prevent the flames from spreading out of the attic.
A 54-year-old man from Fairfield was killed in June during a severe thunderstorm when a tree limb crashed through his windshield.
A 21-year-old Sacred Heart graduate was also killed by a falling tree limb during severe storms in July.
Fairfield first selectman Mike Tetreau says $100,000 from the budget has been allocated to trimming and removing unhealthy trees in town.

He says the police, fire and public works departments, and UI, are working together to get first aid to future accident scenes as quickly as possible.
