Stamford Taxi drivers continue dispute over wages
The labor dispute at Stamford Taxi continued Tuesday with drivers saying the company is charging them too much to operate the vehicles.
Close to 50 cabbies walked off the job Monday after the company fired five drivers over their ongoing labor dispute, drivers say.
The company wants to raise the $450 drivers already pay by $40. According to Walter Rosiclear, things are getting out of control.
?I?m married, I have two kids, I have a mortgage to pay,? Rosiclear said. ?I have bills to pay.?
The State Department of Transportation joined the talks Tuesday, and although the labor dispute isn?t over, drivers who have refused to work are back behind the wheel. In the meantime, negotiations between the company and the union will continue.
?What we plan to do is hear everything that these gentlemen have to say,? Albert Martin, of the State Department of Transportation, said. ?We'll then sit down and talk with the owner. We're also going to involve the bargaining unit.?
Union representatives and drivers are meeting again Wednesday afternoon to continue negotiations.
Commuters who were left stranded Monday and Tuesday can expect things to be back to normal Wednesday, as drivers have agreed to go back to work while negotiations continue.
