Stamford teacher who killed three in DWI free on bond
A Stamford teacher who was found guilty of driving drunk and killing three people was released on bond Wednesday, much to the dismay of the victims' families.
Prosecutors said Tricia Coccomo, a second-grade schoolteacher, had a blood alcohol level 2.5 times the legal limit when she killed three people on Long Ridge Road in 2005. Coccomo's brother-in-law used his Greenwich home as collateral in posting her $1 million appeal bond. Coccomo won't serve her 12-year sentence, handed down less than one week ago, until the appeals process is settled. Her appeal could take as long as two years to run its course.
Karen Seeley, who lost her son in the accident, said Coccomo, a mother of three, should be behind bars. "It upsets me because she gets that time with her children and I don't get time with my son now. I didn't even get to say goodbye," Seeley said.
As part of her release conditions, Coccomo must turn in her passport and meet with a bail commissioner once a week. She will be subject to random drug and alcohol testing while free on bond, and is not allowed to drink any alcohol.
