Crews began the cleanup Wednesday in Monroe and Newtown after a powerful storm blasted its way across the state Tuesday.
They were using chainsaws, cherry pickers and large cranes along Route 25 in Newtown to clear down trees and power lines.
Heavy winds and rain from the storm knocked down trees and utility poles, left roads blocked and damaged rooftops and gutters.
Officials said they hoped to have power restored and many of the roadways cleared by the end of the day Wednesday.
