An annual summer pop-up park in New Canaan is causing some divisions.
It’s scheduled to run from July 21 to Labor Day. The New Canaan Chamber of Commerce initially came up with the idea for the pop-up park, but after complaints from businesses on Elm Street and in the downtown area, it says it had no choice but to withdraw its partnership for the park.
Now the pop-up committee says it has to find its own insurance and get approval from the police commission and first selectman in order to host the park.
Betsy Wilson, of the pop-up committee is defending the park, saying, “Our committee feels strongly -- we are good people, trying to do the right thing and dedicate our service to the community. We know the park is well-loved by our community."
The pop-up committee will present its case to the first selectman for approval Tuesday morning.
