West Islip couple turns holiday tradition into benefit
A couple in West Islip is turning their holiday tradition into a benefit to help a young boy with cancer.
Anthony and Amanda Imperati have more than 600 Christmas decorations in front of their Pace Drive home.
The Imperatis are using the family tradition 30 years in the making to raise money for the Make-a-Wish Foundation.
All proceeds will help grant the wish of a 10-year-old boy from West Hampton named George.
George is battling end-stage renal disease and his wish is to visit "The Wizarding World of Harry Potter" at Universal Studios in Florida.
The Make-a-Wish idea was my wife but I just knew dozens of families would come here why not raise money for a great cause. So far we've raised $1,800 dollars, I'm hoping to raise over $2,000," says organizer Anthony Imperati.
The Imperatis tell News 12 because all the decorations use LED lights, the entire display uses 1,500 watts of electricity. That's equivalent to running two hair dryers.
