Nurses and medical personnel are planning to hold a rally in Yonkers today to demand greater access to N95 masks and other critical PPE, or personal protection equipment, to slow the spread of COVID-19.

Nurses from St. Joseph's Medical Center and St. John's Riverside Hospital, both in Yonkers, will be gathering to make their voices heard.

Organizers say nurses are being pulled from all over the region and sent to the hospital. Some nurses are even coming out of retirement. However, even though they are willing to work on the front lines, some say they don't feel protected enough. 

Monday, officials at city hall announced hospitals in Yonkers are increasing the number of critical care workers, and now have the equipment to split life-saving ventilators for coronavirus patients if needed. Yonkers leads Westchester County with the most coronavirus cases.

Nurses will be gathering outside St. Joseph's Medical Center later this morning to talk more about what they are facing and what they need to stay safe.
