A Bridgeport nonprofit that helps people in need teamed up with local students to clean up the community this weekend.
Students from Fairfield University pitched in to help Alpha Community Services YMCA beautify Bridgeport.
They spent the day targeting places like Washington Park, where the nonprofit owns 10 houses.
"Our children are so happy when they walk into those homes after living in shelters, after living on the streets -- and I'm just so excited that today we're celebrating togetherness,” says Carmen Colon, of the YMCA.
Katie Weldy, also from the nonprofit, adds, “It's pretty amazing. I know that this makes a difference for those that reside here and being active and being a part of this community just helps make it flourish."
More than 100 students and volunteers participated.
