Police were called to a Bridgeport Catholic school last week after an 11-year-old allegedly threatened a group of students.

According to a letter sent home to parents of sixth-grade students at St. Andrew School, the alleged threat was brought to the principal?s attention after lunch on Friday.

Bridgeport police confirmed that a threat was made by an 11-year-old male student against a number of other students. Since the case involves a juvenile, police would not elaborate on the case.

The children involved were given the opportunity to write down what they knew about the event. According to the letter, police were called to the school as a result of the student reports.

Principal Maria O?Neill says the incident involved only verbal threats and no weapons. O?Neill adds that the threat was above and beyond anything she?s ever heard during her time at the school, which is why police were called.

O?Neill says she, the parish priest and a counselor visited the sixth-grade class to reassure the students that everyone is safe.

The suspect must appear in juvenile court with his parents. He was also suspended from St. Andrew.
