Eighteen Fairfield County residents are one step closer to achieving their higher education goals thanks to scholarships from The Susan Fund.
The nonprofit organization held its 43rd annual reception this weekend, awarding the scholarships to students who have been diagnosed with cancer.
"They have, in addition to medical bills, the college bills, which are just enormous," said Jeff Booth, chairman of The Susan Fund. "So, whatever financial support we can give them is just a huge help."
The Susan Fund was established in 1980 in memory of Susan Lloyd, a Staples High School graduate who lost her battle with cancer. Since its founding, the organization has provided over $2 million in scholarships to nearly 900 students.
The Susan Fund provides financial assistance to Fairfield County residents who are battling cancer and their families, helping them navigate the challenges of both medical and educational expenses.
