Some of the best Olympic swimmers in the country have graced a state-of-the-art facility in Stamford.
Chelsea Piers has trained Olympic hopefuls, including two in the 2020 Olympics - Kiernan Smith, of Ridgefield, and Katie Douglass, of New York.
The founding coach for the Chelsea Piers Aquatics Club, Jamie Barone, competed at the Olympic trials in 2004 and 2008.
Former Princeton swim star Doug Lennox is the new head swim coach at Chelsea Piers. He competed in the 2008 Games.
"That Olympics was highlighted by Michael Phelps going for the 8 gold and accomplishing that. I swam in two of his events and was nowhere near his level of ability, but it was cool to be a part of history and witness it," he says.
Lennox knows how hard it is to make an Olympic team.
Coaches at the club say some of the young swimmers they're training now could be headed to the Olympic Games.
Alex and Gretchen Walsh also came from Chelsea Piers. Alex Walsh qualified for the Olympic team.
