Gov. Ned Lamont is encouraging employers and young people to participate in the state's Youth Employment Program during their summer break.

The governor and the labor commissioner visited Ebony Horsewomen Equestrian and the Therapeutic Center in Hartford Wednesday, one of the many employers in the involved in the program.

Businesses will have their workers' salaries covered by the state.

Employers will have the opportunity to train and help young people develop skills for their future careers.

"Doing something is the best way to reach some of these young people, and that's what the program is here," said Lamont. "You learn some skills, and you learn a little bit about yourself."

The program runs year-round and is focused on helping youths from underserved communities.
