Flag-raising at Capitol marks Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Organizers say the goal of the ceremony was to raise awareness and let people know they are not alone.

Connecticut recognized Domestic Violence Awareness Month Wednesday.
State officials, survivors and members of Connecticut Coalition Against Domestic Violence gathered at the state Capitol for a flag-raising ceremony.
CCADV, a nonprofit, provides free resources at its 18 member organizations, all accessible through CT Safe Connect, the statewide domestic violence information and resource line.
Organizers say the goal of the ceremony was to raise awareness and let people know they are not alone.
"If you are feeling unsafe, please know there is help out there. These people are all here to support you. CCADV and its coalition of members, just the boots on the ground doing the work. So please reach out, get help. You are courageous. You can do this," said state Sen. Christine Cohen.
In the United States, domestic violence affects 1 in 4 women.
