A Stratford youth football team is asking for the public's help getting their players to the national championship in Florida next month.

Tanisha Washington, owner and president of the Stratford Bengals middle school football team, says the players have been working hard all year long.

She says the players have also met challenges from qualification issues arising from where the players live.

"Just help the young kids out. They're looking to go to Florida, they're ready to go, they're ready to compete, and they're ready to bring back home the championship," said Washington.

The team has had an undefeated record this season.

Despite qualification issues, the United Youth Football League recognized the Stratford Bengals' record and let them compete in their nationals in Florida in December.

"When we got the call to make it to nationals, I was more than happy to jump at the chance because the kids deserve it," said Washington.
