Hundreds of people and families in Stamford are receiving warm winter coats through Person to Person’s annual coat drive.

The nonprofit is giving away more than 1,800 coats during the event.

The donations were collected from across Fairfield County and sorted by volunteers before the giveaway.

Organizers say demand has been tremendous this year and that the effort shows what the community can accomplish by working together.

“This event takes dozens of volunteers, dozens and hundreds of coat drive partners, schools, houses of worship partners, businesses, we're grateful for everybody that makes it possible and we're gonna do our best this year to get coats to everybody who needs it,” Person to Person CEO Nancy Coughlin said.

Saturday is the final day of the giveaway. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Shippan Landing on Harbor Drive for anyone in need of a coat.
