NEW & NOW: Storm Team Meteorologist Michele Powers says rain will pick up through the evening, with the heaviest overnight. Nuisance street flooding possible.

The trend in some of the heaviest rain has shifted slightly and could be more in our favor. Best chance of flooding should be outside of Western Connecticut, but it's a close call. Rainfall total could climb up to half an inch per hour tonight and give us 1 to 1 1/2 inches by Thursday morning. The heaviest rainfall should occur just north of the low pressure. Southern Fairfield and New Haven counties will see more rain than north.

Temperatures stay mild and warm up into tomorrow. 50s are on the way with breezy winds. Winds will pick up 10 to 15 mph out of the northeast night and early tomorrow.

Minor coastal flooding is possible on Thursday along the Southwestern Connecticut coastline. Tidal departures of 1.25 to 1.5 feet are needed for minor flooding and are expected to be reached during Thursday afternoon's high tide between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. Localized minor flooding possible during this time.

NEXT: The weather pattern slowly flattens and dries out going into the weekend. This means no rain and temperatures return to more normal temperatures with highs in the lower 40s. The rain for early January looks to miss us on today's model runs, but something to keep an eye on around Jan 2. Overall, temperatures are expected to trend cooler into the new year, but at this point it doesn't look very significant yet.

THURSDAY: Cloudy sky. Light showers possible. Highs near 51.

FRIDAY: Mainly cloudy still. Light showers in the afternoon. Cooler. Highs near 48.

SATURDAY: More sun than clouds, but not completely clear yet. Seasonable high of 46.

SUNDAY: Mostly sunny. High 45.
