A Bridgeport woman has been arrested for the overdose of her 4-week-old granddaughter.

Officers responded on Feb. 21, 2021 to a report of an infant not breathing. They said she was transported to a hospital by her uncle where she later died.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner found her cause of death was acute intoxication from the combined effects of fentanyl and para-fluorofentanyl.

Investigators determined that the child’s grandmother, Eleanor Herman, 61, was responsible. They said Herman was the main caretaker for the infant and has a history of addiction.

After a warrant was obtained last week, officers took Herman into custody. She has been charged with manslaughter in the second degree and risk of injury to a child. She has an arraignment scheduled for Wednesday in Bridgeport Superior Court. Her bond has been set at $250,000.
