"It's just horrifying," Commuters react to attempted assassination of former President Trump

People are speaking out in the wake of the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

"It's terrible," Andy Baumel of Wilton says. "It's not the country I want to live in where people can just feel like they can shoot anybody."

Some people say they're shocked, while others aren't surprised given the current political climate.

"It's just horrifying. This isn't what should be happening in this country," Norwalk's Alexandria Egler says. "We're all Americans. He has a right to give a speech just like anyone else does."

Milford's Nathalia Cunha says the attempted assassination could sway undecided voters in the upcoming presidential election.

"I think people have a little more sympathy with Trump right now that I don't think most people had before," Cunha says. "Now you see him as a victim of an unfortunate thing."

Others questioned the effectiveness of security at Saturday's rally in Pennsylvania.

"I think there was enough security," says Ivan Scudder, of Norwalk. "The guy outsmarted them, he went on the roof."

The former president is in Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention.
