A Bridgeport nonprofit is inviting the public to attend a free forum focusing on ways to help children impacted by violence.

The event held by LifeBridge and sponsored by Yale New Haven Health will take place at Housatonic Community College on April 30.

Edith Boyle, the head of the nonprofit, says the event will bring health care providers, educators, business leaders and the community together to address the staggering number of young people who have experienced or seen violence.

"Fifty percent to 96% of urban youth have witnessed community violence - that's a huge number," she said. "Roughly one-third have seen a stabbing, a third have witnessed somebody being shot and roughly a fourth have seen a dead body in their community. That's something that we collectively need to address. It's not something that one agency or one initiative or intervention can solve."
