Bridgeport Animal Control works to keep pets safe during hot weather

Chief Bridgeport Animal Control Officer Jenny Merenda spent Wednesday on "heat patrol" - driving through the city to ensure pet owners are keeping their animals safe during the hot days of summer.
"It's not like any other day. You have to make sure they're keeping extra water out, that their pets are not outside in direct sunlight, that folks aren't walking their dogs on the hot pavement," Merenda told News 12.
Merenda said pet owners should carry water bottles and collapsible bowls with them when they're on the go with their pets.
"It's a shared responsibility because animals can't tell us how they're feeling in the heat," Merenda said.
