Bridgeport Police Detective Jeffrey Holtz was emphatic Tuesday to say that a double shooting Saturday "was not a retaliatory act" arising from the killing of Jordan Thompson on Noble Avenue two weeks earlier.
"These events were connected only by mere chance," Holtz told News 12.
The two people were shot around 2 p.m. Saturday near Bridgeport Superior Court, at a gathering following Thompson's funeral.
"The shootings Saturday appeared to be the result of a very isolated argument that occurred inside the vestibule of the Arcade mall, then quickly moved outside where the shootings occurred," Holtz said.

Police have not yet identified the victims in the Saturday shootings. They say one suffered a minor leg injury and was released from the hospital the same day, while the second victim remains hospitalized.
The search continues for a suspect or suspects in connection with the city's first murder of 2026, police said.
