Residents in a Yonkers neighborhood say a loud boom shook buildings and left them concerned after another disturbing incident near a local park late Monday night.
Several neighbors living along Brandon Road said they heard the sound near Bregano Park just after 8 p.m.
"It was just a loud boom," said Yonkers resident Joylen Thomas.
Tuesday coverage
Police said officers were called to the area after reports of fireworks. When officers first responded, no one was found inside the park.
By Tuesday morning, officials said officers discovered a damaged portable toilet.
Yonkers police requested help from the Westchester County Police Bomb Squad and federal partners to process the scene and handle the materials, according to an official with the department.
Police believe the sound came from a firework. No injuries were reported, and officials said there is no threat to the public.
Neighbors said they have heard similar sounds in the area over the past few weeks. "I didn't even bother looking because it's been going on," a nearby resident said.
Police said extra patrols are being sent to the area as reports of prior incidents are reviewed.
