Residents who fail to pick up after their dogs will now face higher fines in Yonkers.

Mayor Mike Spano announced on Monday that the city council approved legislation reclassifying the act from a Class III to a Class II offense.

The original fine of $1,500 has risen to $5,000.

The city says dog waste is among residents’ top reported complaints.

Nearly 100 summonses have been issued since February.

Spano says more bags and garbage cans have been added across the city.
