Anyone whose commute takes them through New Canaan may want to give themselves extra time on Wednesday morning.

Town officials expect Route 106 between Weed Street and Lapham Road to be closed until Wednesday morning as crews work to repair a water main break on Old Stamford Road.

"This intersection can get really, really busy in the morning," says Terry Dinan, of New Canaan. "Having Old Stamford Road closed off certainly impacts Weed Street. I'll definitely be finding alternate means to get to the Merritt Parkway in the morning."

It's a highly traveled area with Merritt Parkway on and off ramps, and the Talmadge Hill train station nearby.

"It just means there's going to be a lot of rerouting people, a lot of traffic on other roads," says resident Tony Du. "It's going to be a pain in the morning."

Aquarion says two water mains run in the area. Crews didn't know which one was affected until workers started excavating Tuesday afternoon.

Aquarion says customers in the area may have had discolored water for a brief period of time.

"It's disappointing, but things like this happen," Dinan says, "and we kind of have to roll with the punches."
