WHAT TO KNOW
We will see some showers and even a few thunderstorms on Thursday. The threat of severe storms is likely from 12 p.m. - 5 p.m. The primary threat will be damaging winds, with the secondary threat being heavy rain.
Rain showers are likely through mid to late morning and this could impact the Knicks parade in NYC. Then there is the potential for thunderstorms as the cold front moves through during the afternoon.
It will be very windy during the day, with winds gusting up to about 30 mph and out of the south, turning westerly later in the day. If these severe storms do develop, winds can gust up to 60 mph and that means wind damage (including power outages) may be possible.
It's going to be quite hot in the afternoon. Temperatures are expected to climb into the mid-80s. By the afternoon, the humidity will be very high and it will feel quite uncomfortable again.
Friday features the return of the sun and a less humid start to the weekend. If you plan to go golfing, hiking, or even just relaxing at the water's edge to celebrate Father's Day, then know Mother Nature is able and willing to help out.
