A Connecticut man is facing multiple charges after state police said he led troopers on a pursuit that ended with a crash in Bridgeport on Friday afternoon.
According to the Connecticut State Police, troopers were dispatched around 1:55 p.m. after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting a gray BMW 528i being driven erratically on Route 15 north near Exit 27 in Fairfield.
Callers told dispatchers the vehicle was being operated recklessly and had nearly collided with other motorists. Troopers later received reports that the BMW had struck a wooden guardrail before the Fairfield Service Plaza.
Troopers located the BMW on Route 8 south near Exit 2A and attempted a traffic stop, but police said the driver fled, exiting the highway before crashing on Main Street in Bridgeport.
Police identified the driver as 39-year-old Lee Roy Bember, Jr. of Bridgeport. He was arrested and charged with engaging police in pursuit, evading responsibility involving property damage, reckless driving, reckless endangerment, interfering with an officer, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of registration and operating without minimum insurance.
Bember was released after posting a $10,000 cash bond and is scheduled to appear in Bridgeport Superior Court on July 20.
