WHAT TO KNOW
The rest of the week is all about the extreme heat and humidity. With the surge in humidity starting Wednesday, it will feel very uncomfortable and then turn dangerously hot during the next several days.
The hottest days will be both Thursday and Friday, with temperatures climbing well into the 90s to near 100 degrees. Temperature records could be tied or broken. The last time Bridgeport saw temperatures top 100 degrees was back in 2011. It's rare for areas so close to the Sound to get this hot. Even if we don't surpass 100 degrees, the heat index will.
Not much relief comes our way for the holiday weekend. The high heat will gradually subside a bit, but high temperatures will still hit the lower 90s.
Scattered showers and thunderstorms are also possible this week and could become strong or severe. Starting Wednesday, that risk goes up for areas north of Interstate 84.
Extreme heat like this can significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, especially for people who work outdoors or have outdoor activities. Stay cool and hydrated. Be sure to pay special attention to the elderly and pets. Stay out of the sun and find cooling centers if you do not have air conditioning at home.
