Police say that two men were shot, and three hospitalized following an incident on University Avenue Monday just after 4 a.m.

Video obtained by News 12 shows a man in white getting something out of a car before heading up the block.

Several seconds later, bangs and screams are heard before the man in white returns to the car.

The NYPD says a 26-year-old man claimed a man came up to him unprovoked, waving a gun and screaming, and then pistol-whipped him.

About 20 minutes after that incident, a group of three men is seen coming from the same direction and appear to be yelling at a friend of the man in white, who was standing next to the car.

When one of them approaches and walks by the car, a gunshot appears to come from inside the car, sending the man running and the friend looking at his wrist.

The man in white then emerges from the car and is seen yelling and being restrained by his friend, while pointing what looks like a gun up the street.

Police say when they arrived at the scene, they found a 22-year-old man had been shot in the torso.

They also say a 34-year-old man who had been hit in the arm later showed up at the hospital, but did not cooperate with officers.

It was only after investigating that they learned it was all connected.

About two minutes after the shot was fired, the car is seen driving away, with another car appearing to chase after it.

The NYPD tells News 12 the man who was pistol-whipped admitted to following the shooter into Washington Heights.

Police also say that a 23-year-old man later showed up at the hospital with scratches from a car crash, which was related to this as well, but have not provided any information about when, where or how that happened.
