Heat and humidity are set to return in a big way for the rest of the week. Temperatures will rise, but it's really about the tropical air mass that takes over western Connecticut.

The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for Fairfield, New Haven and southern Litchfield counties starting Thursday at 11 a.m. through Friday at 9 p.m.

It will feel more like the upper 90s and near 100 degrees for both Thursday and Friday afternoon. Actual air temperatures will top out in the upper 80s to near 90 degrees. Nighttime temperatures will stay really warm and sit in the lower to middle 70s.

Showers and some thunderstorms will also pop up on and off into the weekend. At times the rain could be really heavy and lead to some very localized flooding. Stay aware of the quickly changing conditions over the next several days. Sunday looks to be the next fully dry day with a mostly sunny sky. Temperatures over the weekend will stay quite warm, with high temperatures in the 80s to near 90 degrees.
