A 17-year-old Bridgeport teen has been charged in the July 27 deadly shooting of former Bullard-Havens High School basketball star Leon Richardson, according to Bridgeport police.
Police confirm the teen turned himself in Friday night at police headquarters, accompanied by his mother and attorney.
The unidentified teen is charged with murder and carrying a pistol without a permit.
Richardson, 18, was found with multiple gunshot wounds inside a vehicle parked on Catherine Street at approximately 6:45 p.m., where he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Police said detectives believed early in the investigation that the homicide was connected to the nearby Greene Homes public housing complex, where the suspect is a former resident.
Detectives have not released a motive for the shooting.
The teen is scheduled to appear in juvenile court Monday.
The murder of Leon Richardson was the fifth homicide in Bridgeport in 2026, according to police.
The sixth occurred on Aug. 9, when 46-year-old Johnny Nesmith was shot and killed in the P.T. Barnum public housing complex.
