A man currently living in Albania has been charged with sending death threats and harassing messages through text messages and voicemails to victims over a period of more than a year.

Jarvis Shabazz, 37, was indicted Monday on eight counts of interstate threats and two counts of cyberstalking, according to U.S. Attorney Robert Frazer.

In the indictment, the U.S. attorney states that on Oct. 10, 2022, Shabazz left a voicemail threatening to kill a victim. He stated that he would be “dismembering bodies.” A week later, he left another voicemail, telling the victim, “I want you to understand me well. You will die at my hands. White people cannot protect you. And your children will suffer the same fate.”

Authorities say Shabazz continued to send threatening messages over the course of 15 months, often changing his phone number so he could continue making threats after the victims had blocked his number.

“Shabazz’s threats were filled with violent imagery, religious references, racial epithets and obscenity,” the U.S. attorney said.

If convicted, Shabazz could face up to 50 years in prison, as well as a fine of up to $250,000 for each count.
