Some of the bleachers at Macombs Dam Park are closed ever since a fire burned through them back in April.

To some neighbors, the large hole in the bleachers at the Yancey Track and Field is just one of the areas in need of improvement at the park.

The track and field have become a well-known spot in the community for soccer and football players and for those looking to take a nice walk or run.

However, the wear and tear throughout the years has become evident to some visitors.

"It could use a makeover. It could use a fresh makeover," shared Robert, while enjoying a Monday morning run on the track.

Aside from a portion of the bleachers being damaged, some visitors who love the area pointed out other concerns like the deteriorating condition of the track surface.

Coach Mike Hendricks, of the Bronx Justice League Youth Football team, shared that the football field is also in need of maintenance.

"We can't have that sometimes if we can't have any fans that can't sit in the bleachers and stuff like that," said Hendricks. "It would be helpful if we would get that type of help out here in the community. You know, for that, for a track to have a new track, have a new football field, you know, with lines and numbers for that, for our players and kids," Hendricks continued.

Judd Falukner, the press officer for NYC Parks, released a statement to News 12.

"There is not currently a timeline for repair.

Parks maintenance and operations staff work hard to empty wastebins, remove debris, and keep Macombs Dam Park clean on a daily basis. The park has Second Shift personnel assigned to provide additional cleaning resources during the park's busiest hours.

Parks performs routine cleaning and maintenance of the playing fields. Since 2018, Parks has performed dozens of repairs of the artificial turf field in attempt to improve the safety and quality of the playing surface. We're continuing to explore avenues for funding for a full capital overhaul of the field."
